Supervision

Supervision at Amethyst Counseling and Consulting, PLLC is thoughtful, structured, with a little bit of fun, because serious clinical work can benefit from a touch of humanity and humor. Our supervision model supports clinicians at every stage: trainees, newly licensed clinicians, and experienced providers seeking peer consultation or clinical development.

Core principles

  • Collaborative learning: Supervision is a partnership. Supervisors and supervisees co-construct goals, treatment planning skills, and professional identity.

  • Developmental focus: We tailor feedback and expectations to the clinician’s training level and growth trajectory, moving from directive to reflective approaches as competence increases.

  • Ethical rigor: We emphasize boundary management, client safety, clear documentation, mandatory reporting, and culturally competent practice.

  • Reflective practice: Supervision prioritizes self-awareness, countertransference awareness, and reflective case conceptualization.

  • Evidence-informed: We integrate empirically supported interventions with case formulation, measurement-based care, and ongoing outcome monitoring.

  • Cultural humility: Supervisors model and teach attention to cultural, socioeconomic, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and intersectional factors that shape clinical work.

Types of supervision and consultation offered

  • Individual clinical supervision: One-on-one, focused case review, direct observation (live or recorded), treatment planning, and skills coaching.

  • Peer consultation/collegial supervision: For licensed clinicians seeking case consultation, professional growth, or ethical/boundary problem-solving.

  • Administrative/supervisory support: Guidance for clinicians who are supervising others, including developmental milestones for supervisees and documentation best practices.

  • Frequency: Weekly, biweekly, or monthly, depending on licensure requirements and clinical needs.
